The irony of conservatives saying “pushing for gun laws so soon after a mass shooting is disrespectful” and then having survivors of the shooting start pushing for stronger gun laws only for conservatives to turn around and actually disrespect the survivors by calling them dumb, saying they don’t know anything, assuming they’re just being told what to say by leftist organizations. It’s so disrespectful and hypocritical but obviously not surprising.
Car control? Can you imagine if we required testing and licencing to own/drive a car? Can you imagine if there were regulations and limitations on cars? Imagine
TW: School Shootings
My dad is a middle school counselor. And he loves his job. So much. Every day he gets to go into work and make a difference in kids lives. He helps. He feels with them. His heart breaks for them. He makes things better for them.
And when our schools are targetted, he aches to help. Because that’s what he does.
If you’re like me, you’ve thought about what you would do if it was your school. Even if you aren’t a student any more. Even if you don’t work at a school. Because it could be your church. Or your movie theatre. Or your restaurant. Or your mall. Or your kid’s school. Or your workplace.
I’ve also thought about what he would do.
He would run. On his bad knee. With his long legs. He would haul ass as fast as he could to wherever the shooter was. And my 6’4” father would take that person down. Tackle them. Get in the way. Take up as much space and as much time as he could. So that teachers would have a few more seconds to lock their doors. So that students would have a few more seconds to hide in closets. So that everyone with a phone would have a few more seconds to dial 911.
That’s not in his job description. Nowhere on the application does it ask counselors to give up their lives to protect 12 year olds. But people who were called to work in schools, who didn’t see teaching as a back up choice but as the only choice, will gladly do just that.
Because they love their kids.
And if you think that your right to own a semi-automatic weapon is worth more than the lives of people who spend their time working with, teaching, raising, and caring about your children, or those precious student who might actually still be excited about going to school, you and I have a personal fucking problem.
